Reading Buddies at Dartmouth Academy
For a decade, Dartmouth Rotary has been a cornerstone of the Reading Buddies programme at Dartmouth Academy. This rewarding initiative, which began 10 years ago, continues to thrive with our dedicated contribution. We believe in fostering a love for reading and supporting the educational journey of young minds in our community.
Nurturing young voices: Youth Speaks
We proudly host the local stage of the National Youth Speaks competition, providing a platform for young people to develop their public speaking skills. This year, eight teams from three local schools competed across two age categories. The winning junior and intermediate teams progressed to the District finals in Newton Abbott, showcasing the incredible talent within our community.
Preparing for the future: Mock interviews
In collaboration with Dartmouth Academy, we conducted invaluable "mock" interviews for 53 Year 11 students. This hands-on experience helps prepare them for future career opportunities, providing essential skills and confidence for their transition into further education or the workplace.
Encouraging literacy with Books for Life
Every year, Dartmouth Rotary presents "Books for Life" to students in all local schools who are transitioning from primary education at the end of Year 6. This initiative aims to inspire continued reading and learning as they embark on the next chapter of their academic journey.
Joyful moments: Children's Fun Day
As part of our annual Rotary "Children's Fun Day," we are delighted to provide 25 disadvantaged children with a memorable day out at Woodlands Park. These events are designed to bring joy and create lasting memories for children in our community who might otherwise miss out.
Leading the way in Candlelit celebrations
Dartmouth Rotary is a proud member organisation in the planning and delivery of the beloved Candlelit event. We take a leading role in organising the raffle and BBQ, and our members act as stewards for Santa’s arrival and the lantern procession, contributing to a truly magical community experience.
Benefiting our community, locally and globally
Our projects are designed to benefit the community as a whole, both locally in Devon and through our international relief efforts. From supporting local schools and youth organisations to aiding other charities and contributing to global initiatives, Dartmouth Rotary strives to make a positive impact wherever we can.
